Mission: Accepted! U.S. College Admissions Insights
September 9, 2025
If you are applying to U.S. colleges this year, you will likely use the Common Application (“Common App”). More than 1,100 schools accept it, letting you send the same core information to multiple campuses.
To help you master it - and avoid errors that would be repeated everywhere - our interactive guide walks you through each section so you can complete it correctly.
What is the Common App?
The Common App lets you complete one application for many colleges. Enter your profile, demographics, family information, education, activities, test scores, and main essay once, and then send the same core file to multiple schools. With the Common App, you don’t have to retype the same data over and over.
Each college can still add its own questions and writing supplements. Timelines also vary: many schools offer Early Decision or Early Action in the fall (October/November), Regular Decision in winter (January), and some accept applications via Rolling Admission, which reviews applications as they arrive. You submit your applications one at a time; edits that you make after submitting it to one school apply only to future submissions.
Interactive Help
The Common App is simple in theory - one platform for many colleges - but small mistakes can travel to every school you apply to. To enter everything correctly the first time, use our interactive guide below. It walks you through each section, highlights the tips you need at every step, and offers timely reminders (such as, for example, waiving FERPA and assigning recommenders).
Check off each panel with a simple ✓ to track your progress.
Conclusion
Application season is hectic, and turning lots of forms into a clear story is hard. Our interactive guide keeps things simple, so you can avoid mistakes and spend your energy where it really counts. Use it alongside the CommonApp to move steadily from 'login' to 'submit.'
